September nights are noticeably calmer than October nights, and the last two weeks before Halloween are the busiest of the season.
Tickets: How They Sell and What They Cost
Prices generally scale with demand — early September dates sit at the low end, and the weekend before Halloween sits at the top, with Magic Key holders getting an early purchase window. Sales open in summer and popular nights disappear the same day. If your dates are flexible, a Tuesday or Wednesday in early-to-mid September gives you nearly the same party for meaningfully less money and shorter treat trail lines. There is no day-of walk-up option once a night sells out.
What's Actually Included
Your ticket covers the Frightfully Fun Parade, the Villains Grove walkthrough in Redwood Creek, Mickey's Trick and Treat show, character cavalcades, dozens of rare villain meet-and-greets, and treat trails scattered across the park with candy and allergy-friendly options. Most rides stay open during the party, and because a big share of guests are chasing characters and candy, ride waits during party hours are some of the shortest you'll find at DCA all year.
A Touring Plan That Works
Enter at 3:00 PM and ride the headliners immediately — Radiator Springs Racers, Guardians, Incredicoaster, Web Slingers. At 6:00 PM, go straight to whichever villain meet has the longest expected line (usually the rarer villains from Hercules, Sleeping Beauty, or the Princess and the Frog). Do Villains Grove between 7:00 and 8:00 PM while most guests are at the first parade. Save treat trails for the last 90 minutes — the lines collapse after 9:30 PM and cast members hand out generous portions to clear stock.
How It Affects Daytime Crowds
On party nights, DCA clears out non-party guests starting mid-afternoon, so day-guest crowd scores at DCA fall in the late afternoon while Disneyland Park absorbs the overflow. In practice: if you have a regular ticket on an Oogie Boogie night, spend your evening at Disneyland Park, not DCA. Costumes are allowed for all ages under Disney's costume rules — no masks over the face for guests 14 and older, no weapon-like props, no dragging capes. Bring a lightweight bag for candy; the handout bag fills quickly. Anaheim evenings in September can still hit the low 80s, so dress in layers rather than a heavy costume. Parking is the standard resort rate and the structures back up hard at 3:00 PM as party guests arrive all at once.
